PC Fixed – Mechanic or Driving Instructor
Just over a week or ten days ago my PC developed a internet connection problem, everything was working fine and then we had a power cut due to a small local storm, it only lasted about 10 mins when the power came back on I kept getting the message LAN cable unplugged, but it wasn’t, no matter what I tried I couldn’t resolve it and so had lost my internet connection.
Now because I use my pc on a daily basis (and being an ex IT trainer) everyone automatically thinks I know how to fix them, I confess that in the past I have been a bit of a “tinkerer” taken things apart then found that I’ve still got parts left over when I’ve put got back together (you ever done that
)?
It’s the difference between being a mechanic or being a driving instructor, the first one knows how to fix your car but isn’t qualified to teach you (though some think they might be
) and the second, can teach you how to drive it but aren’t qualified to fix it (though again some think they are
).
I suppose it comes down to defining your role, wait are you good at? We can cross this over to internet marketing, what are you good at or enjoy doing that you can utilise in your IM business, is it writing articles, or graphics, are you good at the technical side and can easily set up websites or making promotional videos. Knowing what you’re good at is half the battle in building an on-line business, do the things you’re good at and outsource the bits you don’t like doing .
Outsourcing is getting more and more affordable, with sites such as fiverr.com where, (if you’ve not heard about it) you can get most IM tasks done for £5.00 (If you’d like an e-book about getting the best use from fiverr.com send me a ticket via www.timerees.com/support)
There’s no reason you can’t start or achieve your dream of running an on-line business, do what you’re good at, outsource the other stuff and don’t forget you can always ask me if you get stuck or, just want a little advice.
Whatever you do don’t be “A jack of all trades, and a master of none”
