March Already – Back Up Trouble

Not posted for ages, for my regular readers I apologise for that. I’ve had a few ups and downs (as we all have), during for the first part of the year, which has delayed certain projects I was looking to put into action.

I’m still building my offline local & mobile marketing business, had a slight catastrophe with the website and lost all the data, I had backed up the website and thought no problem, but unfortunately the back up failed and then I found that because I bought the backup software over a year ago, I wasn’t entitled to support, which  really annoyed me.  This is a product I promoted to you my subscribers too, so if you bought the product please just check.

I now have a new mobile marketing site up and running, quite happy with it and I think it looks a lot better.  This time I’ve used a new backup product called  WP BackUp Plus125x125-b

This is a fantastic little product for backing up word press sites, it includes a fully automatic scheduled backup option as well as manual backup (click when you want to back up), to multiple sources and is easy to set up. It’s important to have a backup system in place so check this one out. As a bonus, although it’s easy to install, if you buy through this link and don’t want to set it up I’ll do the first one for you. Plus, with WP Back Up + your support doesn’t run out either.

Another set back included my sites getting hacked, I never thought this would happen to little old me.  Just goes to show that it can happen to anyone, but I’ll tell you more about this in the next couple of days, I want to show you the message they placed on my sites, I did take a screen shot  so need to look that out and post it here, let me know if you’ve had any problems with backups or hackers at all post a comment below…

SMILE Your Way To Success :-)

Last week I went to a Victorian Christmas Fayre being held in my local town, as I’ve said before I love Christmas, and a lot of our traditions were started in the reign of Queen Victoria (1837 – 1901).  Christmas cards, games, mulled wine and festive foods and the Christmas tree.

Many of the traders in the town really got into the spirit of the event and dressed in Victorian style clothing, you may wonder why this has anything to do with a “Smile”.

Christmas for many people brings on a genuine  “feel good factor”, we experienced this earlier this year when London held the Olympic Games. Team GB did really well and you’d find that people smiled more and talked to complete strangers, the whole Country felt a lot more friendly.

Back at my Victorian Fayre, I enjoyed looking around the shops and various stalls that were set up for the evening, passing a charity book  shop, I saw a basket outside with various books and CD’s in, I had a little bit of a rummage and came across a set of audio CD’s that I’d been looking for, for quite a while.  “How To Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie.

I’d read the book version of this some years ago, but had always wanted it on CD but never found it.  It cost me £2.50 ($4.00) for the complete set of 8 CD’s, an absolute bargain.  Although I had read it over time you forget certain things, going through listening to these disks I realized that it was the simple things that you think you know and take for granted which are easily forgotten.

One of these is Smiling, of course I haven’t forgotten how to smile but working alone as many marketers do, I think you can forget “When” to smile. In my days as a call centre advisor I used to smile when talking on, and answering the phone, it lifts your mood and the tone of your voice.

“Smile at people you meet and say hello” or “Good morning”, he says and “9 times out of 10 the person will smile back at you”. It creates a rapport between you.

Couple smiling to other simple rules like, using and remembering people’s names, being more interested in their needs rather than your own, then through these simple acts, you really can Smile Your Way To Success.

Although it was written 70+ years ago if you haven’t read Dale Carnegie’s book, you’ll still find it relevant today, grab a copy from your local library, read and take notes.

As well as the CD’s I also bought a copy of “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. This is one of those books you hear many successful marketers refer to as their “light bulb moment”. When I’ve read it I’ll let you know my thoughts.

Have you read either of these books, what are your thoughts? Post a comment and let me know, like this? Why not tweet it or post it to facebook.

PS – It takes more muscles to frown than it does  to smile, so conserve your energy and SMILE

One more reason to SMILE – it will soon be CHRISTMAS!!!!

17 Sleeps ‘Till Christmas

“17 sleeps ’till Christmas”,  That’s what my 8 year old Nephew (great Nephew really), told me at his birthday party yesterday. His excitement about a visit from Father Christmas is magically and contagious.

As we get older many of us lose that sense of excitement probably due to the pressure that comes with growing up, and somewhere along the way there’s always that certain person who reveals that certain secret which inevitably leads to some Christmas magic being taken away, this is a real shame.

For me, the person that diluted my Christmas spirit was my school teacher. Hard to believe in some ways, because she was such a nice lady, strict, but nice.  I never have understood why she thought it was the right thing to do.  To this day I remember her exact words. We all filed into her classroom, new pupils on the first morning of the Autumn (Fall) term. She said. “Now you’re 8 years old, it’s time you stopped believing in …………..” (You know what she said next so I don’t need to write it down).

A few of us looked at each other silently stunned by her revelation, a lot of Mum’s and Dad’s were asked questions that night, and although they insisted she was wrong, a flicker of Christmas light had been blown out.

As a grown up, I’ve always tried (where ever I have any influence), to make sure that the Christmas secret is kept. We spend far longer as grown ups, so what’s the harm in helping our young ones keep the magic for a little longer.

Even so, I’ve always loved Christmas especially the run up to the big day.I love Christmas films too, my two favourites being, A Christmas Carol and Miracle on 34th Street. (It’s A Wonderful Life Gets comes a close third).

My affinity with A Christmas Carol, is possibly due to the character being called Tim, Tiny Tim, and because he (like me) had problems walking, (mine due to my Arthritis from 5 years old). But it is one of those films that conveys the meaning and values of Christmas, I watch this every year, and if possible try to see it in the theatre too, but it has to be before the 25th of December.

With Miracle on 34th Street, during my school days I often played the jolly old man, and later in life when I had a fancy dress business, was asked to stand in for him again, (though I think this was due to the fact that I had several suitable costumes, so they didn’t need to hire one). Check the films out if you can, I’m sure it will make you feel more “Christmassy”.

Let me know what you like about Christmas, and what it means to you. Don’t forget to add your favourite films, stories and games too. (post a comment below).

There are a couple of other things I love about the festive season, one I’ll tell you about later, but for now another one is “giving”. I know it’s great to get presents and it may sound a strange thing to say, but, I get as much (if not more), pleasure from giving gifts to others. So in the run up to Christmas I’m going to be sending you (my subscribers) more gifts, we’ll start today with a great e-book.

“Free and Low Cost Ways to Huge Web Traffic” This book talks you through 6 effective low cost (some are FREE) strategies to increase web traffic to your websites and pages. All 6 strategies are easy to implement (or outsource) and will stay valid for a long time, so once created you’ll have a nice steady traffic stream.

My second gift will be in the email I send to you today along with the download details for the above book. The second gift is a definite winner, we all know how valuable cloud storage is going to become, services like Dropbox and Box are great but they are limited with the amount of storage you get, in my email today (and on the list bonus download page), you will find a link to unlimited cloud storage, (Free sign up). It’s definitely worth checking out.

If you’re not a subscriber yet, click on the sign up now link below, or pop your details into the opt-in on the right hand side to get your internet marketing library too.
